Solar Thermal System – Recirculation Case Study

Vaillant Solar Panel

Residential three panel solar thermal system

When renovating their dream home in Rancho Santa Fe, the Chavez family wanted to install a solar thermal system that would provide solar hot water instantly at either end of their 6,200 square foot home. After interviewing three installers, they signed a contract with Adroit Solar ; a Vaillant certified installer. Adroit was the only installer to propose a single application to meet their specific needs.

Adroit designed and specified a dual recirculation system, integrated with Vaillant® Solar System’s 990 auroTHERM® collectors. Once the design was approved and ready for build, Adroit got to work and had the solar hot water system up and running within two weeks.

Since the installation, the Chavez family has noticed a considerable difference. Teresa Chavez explains, “It’s been over six weeks since we started using our Vaillant solar water heating system.  I wanted to let you know how very pleased we are with how well the system is performing.  Totally trouble free, we get hot water within seconds throughout the house.  It’s phenomenal.”

With an annual savings of over $750, the system is estimated to save $30,481 over 25 years and will offset 3,210 lbs of C02 per year, or 80,486 lbs of C02 over the life of the system. That is the equivalent to taking seven passenger vehicles off the road.

Arnold & Google Gang up on Climate Change

Google and the state of California launched a new interactive tool today, CalADAPT, to help Californians understand the climate issues that we face in our local communities. We have some major issues looming over our heads but it’s not all doom and gloom. Arnold narrates the video which covers the risks that our lovely state faces as well as the action that is being taken to combat the changing climate.

I was surprised to learn that the average temperature in California increased two degrees in the last 50 years. I was even more surprised to learn that if we continue with “business as usual” the average temp will increase another seven degrees in this century. Now I have to say that I love warm weather as much as the next California girl but this would have an incredible impact on our world as we know it.

Whether you live in California or Connecticut, CalADAPT will help put a new perspective on the climate issues at hand. I encourage you to watch this short video and check out some of the visualization tools that they have on the CalADAPT website.
